How
Much Should You Tip the Movers?

Some of the moving
companies would suggest you not to tip the movers as they do not expect it from
you and wish to offer you’re a good customer services. But, it is not at all a
part of etiquettes not to tip them for a back-breaking job. Look at the amount
of time they have given for you move and tip them accordingly. There can be
additional stuff like food and beverages that you may offer them as a basic
courtesy. This could boost their morale and they would offer a good help to
you. But, it is up to you to do that.
Do
percentages work?
To most people, it does not
seem that the percentage rule works while tipping the movers. So, avoid going
by the percentage of the total cost of your move when you offer a tip to people
helping you in the move.
Time-based
tipping
You could offer a tip to
the moving staff on the basis of the total time they have spent in your entire
move. For a simple move within half a day, it is all right to pay around $10
per individual. You could double this amount if they spent the full day on your
move. If you feel your move was a little harder to handle and you had some big
stuff to be carried through long and narrow ways, then you should pay somewhat
extra in tips too. For such moves, paying around $30 to $40 is okay.
But, if it is an
international move for a few days, then your tip may increase up to $100 to
$200. Also, observe the quality provided to you during this move and adjust the
tip amount accordingly. For example, if you feel that some carelessness was
seen while handling your stuff, you could reduce the tip accordingly. That way,
even your mover would get an idea that the job was not well done and they would
want to improve their service the next time. For more information about moving,

Non-financial
offers
If you are looking to have
alternative to money, then offering your movers a good lunch or dinner could be
a great idea. But, make sure to ask them their choice of food. You should also
offer some seasonal beverages and bottled water to them. There could
additionally be a combination of food and cash tip to movers, if you may like.
What
should not to be offered in tips
Tip your movers
individually according to the time they have put in, but do not offer them
things like alcohol as it is considered irresponsible and can make the drivers
intoxicated.
